Rambling & Hillwalking in Beautiful West Cork
Autumn Weekend Away in the Galtees - 29th Sept till 1st October

18 of us had a wonderful weekend away in the Galtees enjoying great scenery, fabulous walks and a fantastic welcome from the Galtee Walking Club. Several experienced members provided us with challenging walks at different levels. On Saturday, September 30th, everybody set out together. A-level walkers then continued to Galteemore on a demanding walk/climb of 3 peaks. Unfortunately the weather closed in a bit and it was too foggy to enjoy the potentially fabulous views. The B walkers went as far as Lake Curra.
That night we had dinner in Aherlow House Hotel and some of the Galtee members joined us. It was a great evening in good company with lovely food and even a bit of homemade entertainment at the end, courtesy of some talented Skib members.
The Sunday walk went to Lake Muskry. Three of our very fit members accompanied by Galtee walkers took in an additional, very steep climb up Knockastackeen. In spite of a fierce wind at the top of the mountain and soft rain everybody really enjoyed the walks.
The weekend was a great success not least due to the fabulous organisation put in beforehand by Marie and David Sprott and Susan and Adrian Thomas. A big thank you to them from all of us!
We are hoping to return the hospitality of the Galtee Walking Club having invited them to visit in late spring or early summer.
